EXCHANGE SAFETY TRACKER
Ranked only on hacks, theft and unauthorised access reported in the last 12 months. Trading performance, fees and solvency play no part.
Every incident in the last 12 months adds risk points to each exchange it names. The window rolls forward daily, so incidents drop out after a year.
| Funds stolen from the exchange's own wallets or systems | 40 + 10 per tenfold loss above $1M $1M = 40 · $100M = 60 · $1B = 70 |
| Intruder or insider inside the exchange's systems, no funds reported stolen | 15 |
| Customer accounts drained without a reported breach of the exchange | 5 |
| Customer data exposed at a third-party supplier | 5 |
Safe: the exchanges we track with the lowest score. Ties go to the longest clean record since the last platform hack, then the oldest exchange. Concerning: the highest scores, ties to the most recent incident.
"Reported" means credible on-chain or press reporting that the exchange has not confirmed. "Users covered" means the exchange says customers did not lose funds. Covering losses does not reduce the score: it shows a strong balance sheet, not stronger security.
This is a news summary of public reporting, not a security audit or financial advice, and it says nothing about solvency, licensing or how an exchange treats customers. Spotted an error or a missing incident? Email [email protected] with a source.
