House Democrats weigh new crypto market-structure bill with larger SEC role
House Democrats are reportedly discussing their own crypto market-structure bill for the next Congress, built on Maxine Waters' 2025 consumer-protection amendment to the CLARITY Act. Ideas include expanded SEC supervision, a narrower CFTC remit and ethics limits on crypto dealings by the president and federal officials. Waters is expected to chair the House Financial Services Committee, while French Hill's Arkansas race remained close. Lawyers say tokenisation and stablecoin work can continue under existing law, with the GENIUS Act taking effect on 18 January.
